You may see some toddler plates coming up as I serve toddler friendly, yummy, healthy meals to my 2 year old boy. 🍓 🍽️ 🥞 @henleysma
Backstory: Henley has been tube fed most of his life. From 2 months onwards. NG to G.
What does this mean? Although he is now safe to eat and has been for awhile , it's been a whole process to support and pick up on his hunger cues , keep trying different foods and textures. He is now picking solids and only " puree" really is apple sauce and yogurt these days.
Extremely proud of my little man and his eating. Learning as we go, it's so much more than taste. It's a whole sensory, oral- motor experience. Family and connection and offering variety.
Oh, & we have B I G news ..... we are on day 5 of NO tube feeds. What does this mean?? It's been exciting, and a little nerve wracking.... some meals he eats it all, others he picks , some he doesn't touch at all.
Biggest thing NOT to do: over-correct. We are being guided by our dietician and have weekly weights and check ins. This is a huge step as just 3 weeks ago we were still on 4 feeds a day then went down to 2, 1 on our own ... now none!
This medical mama is : watching for hydration ( amount of wet diapers ), pushing fluids ( water at side all day), trying to get him to sip milk too... & making sure 💩 he is going... #restoralax is the safest, best way to bring water to bowels. This helps Henley's digestion and allows him to have hunger & full success with this tube wean. (any Mama's wondering about this - check out links coming soon!)
Yes, it's happening faster than we imagined. ( Tube will stay in probably 3-6 months even when not using it at all , for safety .. and just in case..) , also he still has his Restoralax through his tube with water.
If you are new here, thanks for reading. Medical mamas , friends, we are all in this momhood together one day at a time.
